History

Offered by the Sydney Morning Herald and held during the Sydney Writers' Festival. The winner received a $200 book pack and the school a Sony eBook Reader and membership of the Pilot Pen Ambassador Program. (Northern District Times, 6 June 2012 p. 31)

Notes

  • Inaugurated in 2012, the Sydney Morning Herald Younger Writer creative writing competition 'is presented by Sydney Writers' Festival and the Sydney Morning Herald.

    'The Younger Writer competition is open to students in Years 7 to 9 in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.' Students 'choose one of the three "Story Starters" provided by award-winning authors ... then continue the narrative, completing a short story'.

    A winner and a runner-up are chosen for each of Years 7 to 9.
