History

The Army Education Service on Bougainville established the Torokina University which hosted the Solomon Islands Writers' Club. The club was an opportunity for soldiers to reestablish themselves into civil life.

Notes

  • A competition run by the Solomon Islands Writers' Club with prizemoney funded from a donation of 50 pounds by A Jewish War Effort Circle, Melbourne. The competition was also known as the V. P. Competition, commemorating Victory in the Pacific. Entry was open those who had 'served actively in the Solomons Campaign'.
