History

The inaugural Popular Fiction Competition was conducted by Australian Voices in Print and the New South Wales Writers' Centre. First Prize was a publishing contract with Penguin and the author of the manuscript represented by Selwa Anthony. Second prize was a 20-hour mentorship with a writer and third prize a 10-hour mentorship. The competition was open to all unpublished popular fiction writers of any age. All entrants had to be members of the NSW Writers Centre.

  • The Popular Fiction Competition is jointly sponsored by Australian Voices in Print and the NSW Writers' Centre's and is awarded for an unpublished popular fiction manuscript by an unpublished author. The competition was 'established in 2003 to promote new Australian authors and provide an opportunity for publication in a difficult market for an unknown author to enter.'
