  • In an author's note Foott writes, 'Leonora Bridgeman and her two daughters really existed, and their story is based on fact. Most of it is pieced together from stories handed down by succeeding generations of my family, but the names of all pricipal characters have been changed...', and she gives some explanations on the family background.
