AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A brief account of McLaren's arrival at the coconut plantation on the west coast of Cape York, and of his life there: 'I would live no other life. For solitude and closeness to nature, especially when coupled with graceful palms, white beaches, blue skies, irridescent, island-dotted seas and other adjuncts of tropical beauty, have an irresistible charm.'

Notes

  • With photographs of McLaren's first home at Utingu; of his house in 1917; of coconut palms; and of McLaren with Mr Lee-Bryce, a government resident of Thursday Island.
