December 1913. The operatic diva Lillian Nordica, rival of Melba, travels to Batavia after her Australasian tour. On the way she is shipwrecked on Thursday Island. Ill with pneumonia, Lillian settles into the island's small hospital. As the steamy tropical days and nights unwind, Lillian drifts between memory, dream and reality.
