A notice advertising shares in a new newspaper for Mudgee was published in the
Empire on 10 May 1861. The advertisement states that a company has been formed 'under the "Limited Liabilities Act," with a capital of six hundred pounds, to be raised by one hundred and twenty shares, of five pounds each, to bring out a paper (full size double demy) twice a week, to be called the
Mudgee Liberal and Western Advertiser. No shareholder to hold more than five shares.' (
