      Note/s:
      • A notice advertising shares in a new newspaper for Mudgee was published in the Empire on 10 May 1861. The advertisement states that a company has been formed 'under the "Limited Liabilities Act," with a capital of six hundred pounds, to be raised by one hundred and twenty shares, of five pounds each, to bring out a paper (full size double demy) twice a week, to be called the Mudgee Liberal and Western Advertiser. No shareholder to hold more than five shares.' (p. 1, column 4)
      • On 22 June 1861, Bell's Life in Sydney and Sporting Chronicle ran an advertisement in poetry form announcing the prospective publication of the Mudgee Liberal, 'the title of a newspaper about to be organised by the "Liberals" and working classes of Mudgee'. (p. 3, column 1)

        The advertisement includes the poem 'The "Mudgee Liberal"'. (Poem indexed separately.)
