AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Following the death of New Zealand journalist Charles Marter, the Press recounted one of his self-depreciating stories. In this instance Marter made a flippant and derogatory remark about Adam Pierre, the author of the play he had just reviewed, while in the company its director and star, Alfred Dampier. A few moments later he was made embarrassingly aware that the two men were one and the same.
