AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Billed as a 'new and original extravaganza' and a 'melo-dramatic extravaganza' containing love intrigues and a lost child plot set on an island ruled by the Queen of Pirates. Local and topical allusions to Ballarat and the Melbourne newspapers were included.

Notes

  • While P. Needham is known to have composed the music for 1888 Melbourne production, it is not yet known whether he or someone else was responsible for composing the music for the 1878 version.
