Notes

  • The editor of the Illustrated Australian Magazine introduces 'Australian Pastorals. No. 5. Hearts and Heads' by saying that it 'consists of a series of six letters'. The editor also states that the letters are 'without doubt the production of a lady'.

The six letters, entirely fictional, are sent from 'Miss Emily Wh----, in Victoria' to 'her aunt in Britain'.
