AbstractHistoryArchive Description

In October 1846 Robert Lowe on behalf of Benjamin Boyd brought a charge of libel against the Chronicle over a letter signed 'Robin Hood', published in the 23 September 1846 issue of the newspaper, despite an apology printed in the Chronicle on 7 October 1846. The case was reported in later issues of the Chronicle including 31 October 1846. An ironical poem Boyd v. Hawksley was also published.
