According to Graeme Skinner (A Biographical Register of Early Colonial Australian Musicians: O-R), this song (now lost) celebrates the British Act of Parliament separating Victoria from New South Wales. The act was signed by Queen Victoria on 5 August 1850.
A review of The Song of Victoria in the Illustrated Australian Magazine 1.5 (November 1850): 385 concludes: 'We are much gratified ... that Victoria's liberation has been so musically celebrated in "The Song of Victoria".'
