After much travelling they reach the barren mountains - home of the fearsome White Bone Demon and her band of evil spirits. Determined to capture the monk Hsuan Tsang, the White Bone Demon sets three traps. Each time Monkey comes to Hsuan Tsang's rescue, but the monk, not realising the reasons for Monkey's violent actions, banishes him to his home on Fruit and Flower Mountain.
