A Noval [sic] Hoax Discovery of a White Colony on the Northern Shore of New Holland, single work column
The Sydney Monitor reproduces an article from the Launceston newspaper, the Independent. The editor of the Monitor is suspicious of the article's veracity. He pre-empts the story by writing: 'Probably invented by the witty Editor of the Launceston Independent, of date 5th July 1834. We cannot believe the following account to be Authentic, as the new race of beings had only to travel 500 miles to find the sea; and yet, in 170 years they had not found it, though the first shipwreck were hardy Dutch mariners!'
