Possibly adapted, updated and localised from Harlequin and the Three Wishes; Or, Puck and the Black Pudding, which was first staged at London's Old Vic in July 1823 (and featured Joseph Grimaldi in one of his famous Clown roles).
Notes
The Sydney production, advertised as comprising 'a variety of tricks, dancing, change of dress and scenery,' was presented as part of a benefit night for the widow of Mr Laverty. Interestingly, advertising (see right) records that two of the Theatre Royal actresses refused to take part in the benefit, with meant that Mrs Laverty was "obliged to appear herself."
