Miriam sits, exhausted, in the coffee shop with her baby Philip worrying about an upcoming pharmacy exam for which she has not had time to prepare. She tries to avoid the homeless man selling The Big Issue. Philip seems transfixed by a woman in wraparound sunglasses at another table. Miriam wonders about her own attractiveness and regrets her ruined marriage.

Beth works in a coffee shop. She takes a coffee out to Colin. To try to attract his attention, Beth has tried to draw a penis in the milk froth on top of the coffee. Colin doesn't notice.

Anna examines a vinyl record as she sits over her coffee in Degraves Street. Though not gifted musically, her lessons have meant she enjoys music. Anna is blind and is unaware that Colin, nearby, is attracted to her.
