19th-Century Australian Travel Writing
William Bland (1789–1868), convict, medical practitioner, surgeon, politician, emancipist and philanthropist, published this edited account of Hume and Hovell’s 1824-5 exploratory expedition through New South Wales in 1831. Bland constructed the work in a diary format that details Hume and Hovell’s travel, including their experiences on their exploration, the flora and fauna, landscapes, weather, locations visited, and their interactions with local Aboriginal populations.
