'...we are more disposed to give the little volume a closer scrutiny inasmuch as it claims to be the first anthology of Australian verse published in England. We must admit, however, a certain amount of wonder as to why Mr. Sladen was chosen by the publisher for this task, as we do not consider him, from an Australian point of view, at all qualified for the work.'
