Epigraph: 'A primrose on a river's brim / A yellow primrose was to him / And it was nothing more' [Wordsworth]
Editor's note: Written expressly for the Goulburn Herald
Unfortunately the serialisation of this novella is incomplete. After publishing twelve instalments, the editor of The Goulburn Herald and County of Argyle Advertiser advised that: 'We consider it necessary to to explain to our readers our reason for declining to issue further numbers of an article entitled 'The Goulburn Lass.' When we first permitted it into our columns we were induced to do so under the idea that it would be a short and interesting story: it proves too long and divested of any material or point of interest, as far as we can discover.' (vol.8, no.379, 6 Oct. 1855, p.2)
