Douglas (writer) and teachers Robert Leonard (lyricist) and Darrell Bruce (composer), had completed in their spare time a musical comedy called Comes the Spring (Barrier Miner 8 June 1936, 4). Having accepted it the ABC put the work into production and broadcast it live to air on 8 June through one of its Sydney stations, 2FC. It was also relayed to other ABC stations around the country.
