Epigraph: The jin riki sha was designed in about 1870 in Japan. Its invention has apparently been credited to at least three different men: an American missionary named Jonathan Gable, Ahika Daisuki, and an out-of-work samurai called Yusuke Tzumi... it has spread around those parts of Asia colonized by western powers -- Jai Sen, Bulletin of Concerned Asian Scholars.
