School of Arts, single work column
The School of Arts committee held its first meeting last Thursday. It was agreed to invite applications for the salaried post of secretary. A number of publications are to be ordered for the reading room and country newspapers will be contacted and requested to supply copies of their papers gratis. An executive committee was elected to furnish and open the reading room, and a competition for the design of the School of Arts building will be advertised.

A writ for libel, with damages fixed at five hundred pounds, has been issued against the Cairns Chronicle by Mr Onslow Knight for an article published last Saturday.

Herberton: The reading room at the School of Arts is to be enlarged and a large quantity of new books have arrived from London. Much of the old stock is to be disposed of and the writer suggests the new Cairns School of Arts should acquire them.
