Local Items, single work column

A lengthy paragraph in praise of Dr Myers, the editor of the Cairns Advertiser, who moved his paper from Cairns to Herberton in 1881. The writer commends Dr Myer's belief in Cairns and its future and his willingness to criticise where necessary, describing him as 'resolute and fearless' in defending the welfare of the town. Contrary to the opinion of some, the writer sees the departure of the Cairns Advertiser as a great loss to Cairns.

Our Neighbours, single work column
Herberton, 3 April: Relates how an article in the Herberton Advertiser about the state school's indebtedness resulted in sufficient funds being raised to clear the debt. A concert and ball, followed by 'an art union', will raise further funds. The writer concludes that the 'little bit of Press interference will net the school over £125, and yet they growl at the fourth estate'.
