Odyssey: A Magazine of Science Fiction and Fantasy was launched in 1997 by Caliver Books magazine imprint Partizan Press. Liz Holiday, formerly fiction editor of Valkyrie, was the editor. The first issue (#0) was released in the summer, and largely featured reprint fiction from Valkyrie, plus several new non-fiction columns. The second issue (#1) was launched during The World Fantasy Convention in London in October 1998. The regular columnists were Dave Langford (in-depth book reviews), Colin Greenland (advice for writers), Charles Stross (matters of science), Marcus Rowland (gaming), and Roz Kaveney and Andy Lane (science fiction pop culture). It also included interviews with key people from the gaming genre.
Odyssey accepted fiction submissions of all styles of science fiction and fantasy between 1500-12,000 words, with a special slot available in each issue for a 750-word short-short.
Although the magazine was planned to be bi-monthly it was forced to shut down in 1999, barely two years after starting up.
Not to be confused with the Australian Odyssey magazine, published out of Perth, Western Australia.
