Elliot Perlman is one of a number of Australian authors invited to address an 'unofficial course' in Australian literature at The University of Melbourne. The course was arranged by a third-year English student, Stephanie Guest, who was disenchanted with the university's lack of provision of a course in Australian literature.
Sue Martin provides an annotated list of nine books 'her students must read, and the ones they should'. The list was published in response to news that The University of Melbourne was teaching no specialist courses in Australian literature.
