      • Publisher's note in the 1964 edition: "the first edition of this book (the chinese and japanese poems only) appeared in 1931 in peking. parts were reprinted in periodicals in tokio and shanghai. the first full edition was published by our press in 1958. it was limited to 50 copies, illustrated by water colours and arranged like an 'autobiography in poems'. ... in this present edition [1964], the author has revised and regrouped his text, which otherwise has remained substantially the same... ."
