Relates the story of the romance between Sir John Franklin and his first wife, the poet Eleanor Anne Purdue, who died shortly after giving birth to their daughter. The story is told in John Franklin's Bride by the Hon. Mrs Gell and consists largely of their correspondence, much of which occurred during Franklin's Arctic explorations.
