Notes

  • Note that Kendall wrote two different poems titled 'To Henry Halloran' - an earlier work, first published in the Sydney Morning Herald in September 1864, and this later work. Halloran was a mentor and long time friend of Kendall's, and it was in part due to Halloran's efforts that Kendall was able to recover from his personal crisis of 1872. Whilst Kendall might have had doubts as to the quality of Halloran's poetry, he nevertheless admired Halloran's personal qualities, and held him in esteem.
