AbstractHistoryArchive Description

This column reports on a meeting of the Vietnamese Council for Culture and Education (VICCE) at which there was a discussion of the difficulties in publishing facing migrant writers. The column reports that well-known writer Nguyễn Tư recently paid $1000 to have a book of his short stories published in Canada. In the United States Nguyễn Tư faired a little better, with a publisher paying him $500 dollars to publish one of his books (which ran to 800 pages). In Australia, the column states: 'Vietnamese poets were said to publish their works with their own pocketmoney and distribute them amongst colleagues and friends as an attempt to nurture Vietnamese poetry in this country' (57).
