'Voices of the Wheatbelt : Our Place, Our Stories is a community arts project carried out between July 2009 and June 2010 in the Southern Wheatbelt town of Brookton, Pingelly, Narrogin and Wagin, Western Australia. Photography and filmmaking were used to explore notions of place and belonging, in doing so it encouraged a sense of pride, built relationships and fostered community participation and harmony.' 'Voices of the Wheatbelt: Wheat Beats is the third phase in a community arts project occurring across the Wheatbelt. The first phase commenced in 2008.

This phase of the Voices project was carried out between July 2010-June 2011 across the towns of Kelleberrin, Quairading, Brookton and Narrogin in Western Australia. Young people aged 11 to 15 from schools and communities in these towns participated in workshops learning the history and skills of Australian hip-hop, traditional Aboriginal dance, and filmmaking as a contemporary avenue for expressing their connection to their culture and community. One of the many outcomes of the project is this wonderful publication. It showcases four original hip-hop songs written by the young people who participated, and accompanying music video clips directed by 2011 WA Young Filmmaker of the Year Mat De Koning.'
