Notes

  • Dedication:
This book is dedicated to the Jewish pioneers who came to Australia and sought to build a new centre of Jewish life in Broken Hill. They and their descendants have dispersed, but the synagogue is still there as a memorial to and a reminder of their endeavours.
    Also dedicated to:
The memory of my parents Max and Hana Mann who resided in Broken Hill 1929-42 and my brother Phillip Mann, born in Broken Hill 1932. - Leon Mann,
The memory of Elva (Alwyn Edelman's wife) who used to tell me stories, which I sadly did not record, and who inspired me. - Margaret Price
