  • The individual poems comprising 'Twelve Sonnets' appeared in Leaves from Australian Forests in the following order : I. A Mountain Spring; II. Laura; III. By A River; IV. Attila; V. A Reward; VI. To ....; VII. The Stanza of Childe Harold; VIII. A Living Poet; IX. Dante and Virgil; X. Rest; XI. After Parting; XII. Alfred Tennyson. This was the first time that Kendall had published these poems in this particular order. Most of the poems had previously appeared in newspapers, either as separate works, or in different arrangements.
