  • Here 'Menippus' is critical of Henry Halloran's poem 'Volunteer Rhymes', which 'Menippus' maintains had improperly questioned the willingness of colonists to defend Australia from invasion. 'Menippus's' poem concludes 'When need is, you shall find us stirring;/ In foul, or fair, we'll be all there,/ Without your penny trumpet spurring.'
