Notes

  • This story is set in Muloobinba, a fictional analogue of Newcastle, New South Wales. Located two hours north of Sydney, it has a population of just over 400,000 people. The decaying buildings of this industrial city bloom with graffiti, and the horizon is cluttered with coal ships. The story is concerned with three upper middle-class characters who live in Rooks Hill, the most affluent suburb of Mulooinba. The story begins on 26 March 2009 at 2.34 p.m., with a tennis ball being served at a broken-down court in the poorer suburb of Brayfield, and concludes on 13 January with a * (Author’s introduction, p. 187)
  • In verse form.
