Notes

  • Author's note: Patrick Branwell Bronte was born in Thornton, Yorkshire, England in 1817. The only brother of Charlotte, Emily and Anne, he was regarded in his childhood and youth as the most talented of the children. Although he was a heavy drinker at the time, it was thought that a failed love affair in his twenties caused him to sink into further drunkenness, drugs, debt and despair. He died from tuberculosis on 24 December 1848.
