Notes

  • Thomas Chatterton (1752-1770) was an English poet and prodigy. He died at the age of 17, probably from an accidental overdose of arsenic and laudanum, though for many years it was thought that he had committed suicide. During the 18th and 19th centuries he became seen as a tragic and highly romantic figure.
