Includes 'Euterpe in Melbourne', a piece of illustrated, lighthearted prose by the English writer
Angela Thirkell (q.v.). Describing first the rehearsal, and then the performance, Thirkell reports the experience of attending a concert of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Performed under the conductorship of Fritz Hart and held in the Melbourne Town Hall, the concert drew remarkable crowds; Thirkell observes, that this 'packed mass of humanity' was evidence of the 'alarming passion of the Melbourne public for orchestral music'.
