    • This novel is named Hymns for the Drowning in honour of the saint-poet Nammalvar. His book of poems for Vishnu was translated from Tamil by the poet and scholar A. K. Ramanajun. First published by Princeton University Press 1981 and subsequently by Penguin Books India, 1993. Ramanajun's book was first called Hymns For The Drowning (inside cover).

This short article provides a comparative analysis of the works listed.
