Notes

  • This poem appeared in the Argus in January 1851, where it was attributed to Owen Hargraves Suffolk. An almost identical version of the poem subsequently appeared in the Empire in May 1862, where it was attributed to Henry Moss. Whilst it appears that the poem was written by Suffolk, this remains to be conclusively established.
