Notes

  • A brief letter in which the author criticises Charles Harpur's 'paraphrase' of the 137th Psalm, 'The Babylonian Captivity', published in the Empire on 13 May, 1856. According to the author, Harpur's translation 'was greatly too diluted to give an English reader a proper idea of the noble original.' This letter accompanied the author's own translation, 'Lament of the Captive Jews at Babylon' which is separately indexed.
