Notes

  • This poem is a translation of the 137th Psalm. The author's accompanying letter indicates dissatisfaction with Charles Harpur's 'paraphrase' of the 137th Psalm, 'The Babylonian Captivity', published in the Empire 13 May, 1856, and offers an 'improved' version. The poem includes the author's lengthy explanatory note. The author's letter, 'The 137th Psalm', is separately indexed.
