AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'This film examines how Aboriginal people have been portrayed in film and how the film industry has treated Aboriginal people. The film clips include Charles Chauvel's Uncivilised, Walkabout, The Last Wave and the filming of the ABC's The Timeless Land. There are interviews with film directors' Peter Weir and Hugh Rule. This film is also about David Gulpilil's story. After acting in Walkabout, it follows his life and how he dealt with his sudden public fame in United States. There is footage of Gulpilil returning home to a more traditional way of life as well as playing didgeridoo at Jenny's Jazz Club in Sydney.'
