Notes

  • Author's note: 'North Shore.'
  • A poem in honour of English sculptor William Grinsell Nicholl (1796-1871), who spent a brief period in Australia during the early 1850s. In Sydney, Nicholl opened a gallery in Dowling St, Woolloomooloo, where he exhibited replicas of sculptures from British and European galleries, along with his own original works. From the contemporary newspaper reports it appears that Nicholl's gallery eventually closed due to lack of patronage.
