Notes

  • At foot of poem: Vale King Billy. The last of the Ballarat District Blacks, known as King Billy of Ercildoune, was found recently in a dying condition under a hedge, near Burrumbeet. He was almost speechless, and his favourite dog 'Nero' was standing guard over him and whining piteously. King Billy was brought by the police to Ballarat by train, and conveyed to the Hospital, where he died. - News Item.
