AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A column canvassing current literary news including information on the publication of a volume of poems by Barcroft Boake. The column also notes the names of people supposed to be the basis for Marcus Clarke's characters in His Natural Life; the names include Rev. Meakin (for Maurice Frere) and the Rev. James Rogers (for Mr North). The columnist claims that Clarke 'copied whole chapters, hardly altering even words' from Rogers's diary.
