Greg Baum reports on a friendship between World War II veteran Ern Brough and Corporal Alex Fisher. Fisher was serving in Afghanistan in 2009 when he read Brough's autobiography Dangerous Days: A Digger's Great Escape. He subsequently contacted Brough and a friendship ensued.
A column canvassing current literary news including a report on the 2010 London Book Fair. The fair was disrupted by cancelled flights due to the eruption of an Icelandic volcano. This resulted in some publishers, including Text's Michael Heyward, being unable to attend. Steger also notes Joel Becker's move from the Victorian Writers' Centre to the Australian Booksellers' Association.
