Notes

  • As far as is known, this poem was never published in its entirety.

The Colonial Literary Journal and Weekly Miscellany of Useful Information published an editorial comment on 15 August 1844 stating the following: 'Scenes in Maneroo; by a Shepherd' - We have read this production with great pleasure, and regret that our rules respecting the limited admission of poetry prevent us from inserting so long, but in our opinion so genuine, a poem. We recommend strongly the author to publish it. With his leave we shall make an extract for our next publication.

The Colonial Literary Journal and Weekly Miscellany of Useful Information subsequently published three extracts from the poem. These extracts, appearing on 22 August, 12 September and 12 December 1844, are separately indexed in AustLit.
