Notes

  • First published in the Empire in April 1866 titled 'Song'.
  • Note that Kendall wrote two different poems which came to be known by the title 'Sitting by the Fire' (both of which appeared in different versions). The later poem, which appears in Leaves from Australian Forests (1869), is a different work to the earlier one that appears in Poems and Songs (1862).
