A thesis submitted for a Master of Arts, History Department, University of Western Australia. The thesis identifies two continuing streams of literature in Western Australian writing : 1) The Anglo-Australian tradition, conservative in nature and a legacy of WA's colonial origins, and 2) A uniquely Australian tradition which is both popular and radical.

  • This thesis provides a comprehensive study of Western Australian literature and, in particular, the WA Goldfields poets, newspapers, newspaper editors and journalists.
