Notes

  • Dedication: For Telford Ngunaitponi - last Ngarrindjeri man of the full descent.
  • Author's note: 'The Last Kangaroo' - The Ngarrindjeri were a powerful nation of eighteen tribes occupying a great triangle of country centred around the lower Murray Lakes. This confederacy bore the brunt of the European invasion of South Australia, yet managed to survive to produce some remarkable leaders in various fields, including the famous inventor and preacher, David Ngunaitponi (commonly spelt Unaipon) who died in 1967. Mr Telford Ngunaitponi is David's nephew.
